MONTEREY, Calif. -- A new airline is moving into the Monterey Peninsula Airport.

Action News has learned that regional carrier ExpressJet will announce next week that it is beginning flights in and out of the airport. ExpressJet has released few details about the service. The company is a regional carrier for Continental Airlines and also operates under the name Continental Express, with hubs in Newark, Cleveland and Houston. The move into Monterey is a part of a 24-city expansion in the western U.S. It's not yet known what cities travelers will be able to connect to from Monterey but the planes will be 50-seat jets.

Job listings on the company's Web site indicate that ExpressJet intends to operate at least six flights daily. Action News has also learned that the airline has long-term plans to add international service out of Monterey. Members of the Monterey Airport District Board are refusing comment citing a confidentiality agreement with ExpressJet, but the company has informed Action News that it will make a formal announcement with more details on Monday, Feb. 5.
